[CHARACTER] Name: Laura Kinney Codename: Age: 17 Character Base: Laura Kinney / X-23 Home Reality: Earth-282 -- Started out very similar to Earth-616, but the Weapon X program was never dismantled. With the secret government branch continuing to operate by targeting and eliminating high profile enemies of the state and powerful mutants both, plausible deniability only lasts so long. The world is slowly moving futher into both United States supremacy (with a military run government) and homosapien supremacy. Political tensions grow more and more volatile whle economic stability declines rapidly. What did this person do wrong to be pulled out by the Timebroker? X-23 continued her tenure as an assassin after she was unsuccessful in escaping her handler following Sarah Kinney's death. With nothing inspiring her to do right and very little humanity left beyond the memory of her mother, Laura is about to be set upon all the world's leaders in a convoluted power play to make the USA the one and only world superpower, which would ultimately cause the either the collapse of the global economy or nuclear war. Appearance: Too thin and pale with thick dark hair make Laura look somewhat strange, especially considering her heavy eyebrows. Her big eyes are often so wide with active observation that they look bulged, and her prominent cheekbones and distinctive nose are made even more obvious by malnutrition. Laura's quite underweight, and any weight she does have is in wiry muscle and Adamantium. At only 5'5", it's easy to underestimate and overlook her. A quiet demeanour adds to her natural standoffishness, which is somewhat incongruous with her brightly coloured clothing, either sexy or childish, designed to make her appealing or seemingly innocent. Though true, genuine smiles are quite rare, her face is often filled with expressions that she dons purposefully. Laura is an accomplished play actor when need be, and while predominently she's quite straight-faced, she understands the necessity of versatility. PB:DarlaBaker, one more
Powers / Skills: She has an accelerated healing factor that allows her to regenerate damaged or destroyed tissues with far greater speed and efficiency than an ordinary human. Injuries such as gunshot wounds, slashes, and puncture wounds completely heal within a matter of minutes. Her healing factor is developed to such a degree that she can reattach severed limbs. She has also been shown to be able to regrow limbs. Because of this healing factor, she is immune to disease and infection. She is also immune to most drugs and toxins, although she can be affected by certain drugs if given sufficient dosage. She also has two bone claws in each arm and one in each foot which have been sharpened and coated in Adamantium. She is a skilled fighter and has been trained in many forms of combat; while technically that is not a power, her ability to fight is assisted by the fact that she is always operating at peak human strength, speed, and reflexes. She was also taught much about weapons use and war tactics, including torture and interrogation. Furthermore, she is fluent in English, Japanese, Chinese, French, Spanish, and Arabic.
Weaknesses: Lack of interest or concern in the wellbeing of herself or others, inability to understand emotions (whether she is experiencing them herself or witnessing them in others), mentally immature and stunted thanks to an oppressive and unhealthy environment, etc. There are a whole slew of things wrong with her, and until she understands her shortcomings and rectifies them, she's a danger to herself, those around her, and the political stability of her home world.
Personality: Trained through abuse her whole life not to feel emotions and having been shown very little kindness, Laura is one damaged little girl. Though her mother died to save her (as in Laura killed her thanks to the liberal application of her trigger scent), Laura was unable to escape her cruel handler, Kimura, and in the three years that followed, any spark of hope or humanity her mother may have managed to give her was seemingly extinguished. She is quiet, but blunt when she does speak, and while she's been trained in the ability to deceive, she rarely bothers to use this ability to make others feel more comfortable around her, or to convince anyone she's even remotely normal. She doesn't really understand that she's a person and deserves anything resembling her own life, having been told so many times she is just a weapon, a tool of the Weapon X program, and so she doesn't understand things like personal rights. But her mother did read to her, did express a desire for Laura to have a chance at a real life, and that simple care and affection to a girl so completely deprived of it had a great effect. Part of Laura is curious to experience a normal life, but she doesn't believe she'll ever be able to escape Kimura.
Overview: Born to Sarah Kinney in laboratory, Laura was part clone and part artificial insemination. She was treated terribly through her childhood, from being subjected to radiation poisoning to activate her x-gene faster to having painful and invasive medical experiments performed on her with no anasthetics to being forced to kill her mentor and martial arts teacher. The one glimmering moment of normalcy Laura ever had was when her mother read her The Ugly Duckling. This happened about once a month, and though Laura once attempted to put her head in her mother's lap (her first and only attempt at seeking physical comfort), she was punished for it by Kimura. She wasn't yet ten years old when she started cutting herself, both as a method of dealing with the emotions she wasn't allowed to feel and because she had no concept of self-worth.
Her mother's feeble attempts at instilling Laura with some humanity were seemingly fruitless, until she spared a target because he was only a young boy. She was, again, punished for this severely by Kimura, and while Laura had been trained not to feel emotions, she did feel something akin to fear, though it was tempered by the knowledge that Kimura had every right to hurt her as she did and that Laura could never beat her. She grew into her teens, and it was in early adolscence that her mother tried to break her out. It would ahve worked, but for two things. One, the Facility dosed her mother with trigger scent, and two, Kimura was just a little too close. When Laura (who only discovered her name with her mother's dying breath) paused for just that one moment, mourning the death at her hands of the only person who'd ever shown her any modicrum of kindness, Kimura caught her, and dragged her back inside, taking the letter and pictures her mother gave her from Laura.
Laura was kept on an even shorter leash after that, and abused even more frequently and severely. At first she watched for opportunities to escape to go search for answers to the questions that her mother's letter had given her, but before long, she stopped bothering. She had been taught to think logically, tactically, and it was clear she could not escape Kimura or the Facility. It wasn't so much that they broke as she just... had no reason to fight for herself. Her missions began getting more complex, more dangerous, and more high profile. She was sleeping in a sparse hotel room in Cuba, tasked to assassinate the President of Cuba the following morning when the Timebroker came for her.
